"Calling Home"
Diploma Collection of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour
I am a Canadian from the Ottawa Valley. I have been drawing and painting
all my life and have been painting in watercolour since the early 1970's. In
2001 I became an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in
Watercolour and my watercolour "Calling Home" was selected for the Diploma
Collection.
Light in all its forms fascinates me. - the light flowing across our
Canadian skies, the light that twinkles between the leaves of our forest and
lights some of the wild flowers but not others and the light that glows
up from behind all flowers, houses and machinery. In all my work I try
to paint this light
I am a mechanical person in that things mechanical intrigue me. I enjoy
painting machinery and buildings for their geometric shapes which are fitted
into our landscape. They always have an air of being left there by the people
that used them. I watch for the footprints of the past.
I also enjoy the three dimensional shape and this led me to try my hand at
carving in both soapstones and Canadian wood. I love the feel and the smell of
the freshly carved and polished pieces as they emerge under my hands
